Everett John Laitinen dies after three days at 35 West Grant Street. Hugh Ward Jr aged 59 of Chicago listed. Mrs. Pelleh Walton 71 from Wayne township. Lois Maesickaiuse aged nine in KR. Pp. 4 Wickery township Harry E. Simpson 69 Mercer M. D. aged six.
Returning crewmen told how American Fortresses and Liberators battled heavy flak and interceptors as they pounded rail yards and aircraft plants in Belgrade Yugoslavia and Sofia Bulgaria. They reported intense anti aircraft fire and said they inflicted considerable damage on main targets including Belgrade rail yards and two Sofia plants. The mission marked the first Belgrade strike by these bombers.
U S Senator Burton Wheeler of Montana predicted in Boston that President Roosevelt would not run again due to health and that the Democratic nominee would be defeated. He said Roosevelt has not been well since the Tehran conference and that Democrats cannot expect victory noting likely trouble in northern states including Massachusetts.
Announcement by Dr. C. C. Green confirms Charlies G. Lindner as city chairmanship of victory gardens. K KK McCreary named county chairman earlier, succeeding Richards Rentz who has joined the armed forces. A county wide drive to boost war vegetable production begins immediately.
A British radio broadcast heard by CBS described a hitherto secret American weapon a flame-throwing plane with a incendiary tank. The plane is expected to be used in the forthcoming invasion and upon dropping its tank the target is immediately covered with flames.
Southeast Asia command announces a heavy attack by four motor bombers of the 10th U S Army Air Force on Japanese held Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. The communique also notes long range fighters struck He Ho airfield in Burma, destroying seven enemy aircraft in the air and two on the ground.
Admiral Mountbatten reported Allied forces advancing northeast of the Imphal plain in Manipur after recent contact with Japanese troops. The communique also noted a heavy air attack by US Army Air Forces on the Amadanam Islands in the Bay of Bengal and progress west of Bisganpore as troops drove the enemy from a position near the track to Silchar.
Six men were killed when their B 26 army bomber crashed in a vacant lot near Wold-Chamberlain airport in Minneapolis. The aircraft nosed into the ground and burst into flames before rescuers could reach the trapped crew.
Gen Douglas MacArthur reports a major American air strike against Hollandia New Guinea with fighter escorted bombers sinking or damaging nine enemy ships and wrecking ground facilities. The raid produced widespread fires and heavy damage as defenses offered limited opposition.
Chief Robert D. Hanna said police hunted speeders on North Hill yesterday and on the East Side today. He warned drivers to slow down or risk license loss and vowed continued enforcement, especially against Morning motorists who speed to work.

Pfc. Charles L. Parris 19 formerly of Punxsutawney and New Bedford was killed in action in Italy on March 5. He entered service May 7 1943 and went overseas in October 1943 with an infantry unit. Survived by wife Esther Milton Parris, his parents Mr. and Mrs. George W. Parris, infant daughter Diana, two sisters and three brothers. A community memorial service is planned.
