In Denver an auto mechanic Amos C. Hayhurst 41 killed a visitor in the apartment of his ex wife prompting a manhunt. He shot city detective Pasquale Marinaro 44 before police stormed the room and Hayhurst died of a self inflicted wound. The killings began with Joseph Dicker 24 shot in January.

Police hunted a six month planned train holdup by a gang in Nutley New Jersey after they seized $958.35 from an Erie baggage car on train No 310. A bandit car was found in Arlington prompting a statewide search as authorities review fingerprints and tips.
John Jumbo Schottdorf 25 was found shot to death in a Altoona hotel room. Police say the gun was fired by Schottdorf and hold Pearl Pifer Davis 22 for questioning. She claims he killed himself after threatening to kill her unless she married him. The gun lay nearby and Schottdorf stood about 6 feet 4% inches and weighed nearly 300 pounds. His mother and brothers arrived from Atlantic City to learn of the tragedy. The girl’s father Fred Pifer and her brother Harry arrived from Ellwood City.
Senior high school musicians held a tag day to raise funds for sending the band and musicians to the state music contests in Pottsville Pennsylvania on April 24 and 25. They worked the streets early and planned to continue collecting tonight assisted by classmates hoping representatives could compete next week in the northeastern Pennsylvania city. Tin can receptacles were provided by the American Can Company.
Mayor William N. McNair was arrested and jailed in Pittsburgh today after Attorney Warren H. Van Kirk moved to enforce a contempt of court order.
Norman McFarland of Moody Avenue a city fireman at No 5 engine house was injured when he slipped from a fire truck while cleaning it. He struck a chair and suffered back injuries not responding to treatment before being taken to Jameson Memorial Hospital.
