Brakes Fail On Car Which Killed Boy
The 1951 model car that struck two year old Barry Christopher Martin on Highland Ave. yesterday afternoon had faulty brakes city police said. The boy’s death is the city’s second traffic fatality of 1964 and seventh in the county. Police said the child darted from behind a parked car into the path of Willard F. Perdue 55 of Mercer Rd. Perdue was driving about 25 mph toward town and could not stop. Barry died at 1 35 p.m. at Jameson Memorial Hospital from multiple skull fractures.
