Coast guardsmen and Pittsburgh river patrolmen comb the Ohio River for three boys believed drowned after a raft overturned near McKees Rocks. Witnesses saw a rubber raft with a board platform upset and spill the youths into the swift current. Earlier, parents identified lunch fragments as belonging to their sons who failed to return from school.
The Eighth Army said 20 Allied tanks attacked central Korea, inflicting about 244 enemy casualties in a three hour battle with no Allied losses. Two UN tanks were slightly damaged and withdrew. Reds reported 12 killed with another 78 killed and 154 wounded.
A National Guard unit of 19 men guarded Decatur and Tekamah in Nebraska to deter farmers from dynamiting a drainage levee amid Missouri River flooding. Civil defense chairman Brix said flooded lands and anger over water flow could trigger the threat to destroy the levee and flood Tekamah.

Commerce Secretary Sawyer pursues talks with CIO leader Philip Murray and U S Steel president Benjamin Fairless as labor and management seek agreement on prices wages and working conditions in government seized mills. Murray plans to address the National Press Club on the union’s wage stance.
Senator Douglas of Illinois announced support for Senator Kefauver of Tennessee for the Democratic presidential nomination and criticized the southern wing of the party. Kefauver, the front runner, was expected to receive an open endorsement as Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson exited the race. Douglas, previously out of the contest, held a news conference and his backing could influence liberal Democrats.
Britain joined other nations in condemning U S import restrictions. Officials said the issue has drawn broad complaints from foreign governments, with Secretary Acheson revealing the U S had replied conciliatorily to Italy over cheese import curbs and amendments to the mutual security act.
Five people died when a northbound auto collided with a New York Central passenger train at a crossing about 20 miles west of Perrysburg Ohio. The victims include Gerald Wangrin 33 and wife 34 and their 3 year old daughter Janet Kay of Genoa along with John R Damschroeder 69 and Antonia Damschroeder 64 of Graytown.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway, UN Far East commander, has been recommended by the U S Joint Chiefs of Staff to head NATO forces in Europe. His name is awaiting approval by 13 NATO members with a June announcement possible. The decision may wait until Eisenhower returns to the Orient.
Fifteen men called up in the April draft head to Pittsburgh for induction into the armed forces. Eight from the county and seven from the city. Farewell services were held at the bus depot on North Jefferson Street as they travel via the Harmony Short Line due to the Pennsylvanian Railroad line discontinuation. Clergy and civic groups offered farewell remembrances. Six men were sent to Pittsburgh for pre induction physicals this week, three from each board.
