A B-36 bomber from Fairchild AFB crashed eight miles west of Spokane during a pre-dawn training flight. Fifteen airmen died, two were seriously burned but escaped through the nose hole. Wreckage spread over a quarter mile as gasoline tank explosions fed large flames.
