Major Charles H. Schoeffel of the New Jersey state police remains in the United States legation in Vienna to pursue leads in the Lindbergh kidnapping inquiry. He accepted Min. Stockton's invitation to stay, aided by American authorities and Vienna police. Evidence includes fingerprints handwriting and criminal symbols supplied by authorities.
Hollywood dispatch reports that Democrats met to toast Thomas Jefferson but elected Herbert Hoover, noting it will be harder for Democrats to elect a Republican this fall due to many voters sticking with the Democratic ticket despite the party.
A Tennessee auto crash on the Butler road near Welgley town claimed three Wiles family members: Clarence Wiles and 11 year old Betty Jane Wiles died at the scene or en route, and Raymond nine months old died soon after arrival at hospital. The mother Mrs. Wiles and siblings Frank 4 Marjorie and Eugene 9 were injured. Marjorie and Eugene were discharged. Frank remained in critical condition. Funeral services for the father son and daughter will be held Saturday at Boyd Undertaking parlors and the bodies sent to Clarion Pennsylvania.
The city council unanimously approved B. J. Biondi for mercantile appraiser, succeeding F. F. Doveridge who had completed his duties. Councilman Albert Hoyland and D. O. Davies spoke in support during today’s meeting at the city building.
Rep. Cochran argues a 3 percent beer tax could raise over 590 million dollars annually to fund the 2.4 billion dollar veterans bonus. He notes bonds could cover the payment and be retired by the tax, while critics challenge American Legion officials over positions on cash payments and the Legion's stance.
Administration backs a revised needs based veteran allowance plan with an $80 million annual saving target out of a one billion dollar budget.
