Mrs Howard Hetrick of East New Castle reports her husband Pfc Howard Hetrick age 22 son of Mr and Mrs W J Hetrick North Lee Ave has been wounded in action in Italy. He has served since December 1942 and arrived overseas last December. He serves in the infantry and says not to worry his condition is satisfactory.
London April 13. An Algiers radio broadcast said Brazilian airmen were cooperating with the allies over the Anzio beachhead in western Italy. The report stressed cooperation rather than combat activity.
A fire in Fallston Ford County? Be careful. A 34 year old mother Florence McMasters and four of her five children Sally 8 Jack 6 William 3 Jane 8 months were burned to death. Father Franklin 40 was treated for burns and son Jacob 13 was rescued. The blaze began in the McMasters kitchen and spread to adjoining homes trapping the family on the second floor. Neighbors said the family moved in two months ago.
Pearl Harbor April 15 Allied air forces struck Paramushiro Shimushu in the Kuriles and Matsuwa Ulul Ponape in the Carolines. Admiral Nimitz announced raids by Army Navy and Marine bombers against northern Japanese outposts and a lone Liberator mission in the Kuriles.
Mrs. Alice S. Tanner of 1414 Huron Avenue received word that her son Pfc. Frederick Ted Tanner age 33 is listed as missing in action by the War Department. The message says he has been missing since February 16 while serving with a U S Infantry regiment in the Italian theater. He enlisted December 9, 1942 and went overseas November 1943, seeing action against the Nazis in Italy.
In Italy Allied artillery batteries pounded Nazi positions across the front at Cisterna and Anzio. British and American gunners shelled German gun emplacements and 12 tanks near Carroceto with unobserved results. In the Garigliano sector patrols clashed as batteries targeted workers laying mines. Cassino remained quiet except for small patrols. Indian troops repelled minor attacks on the Eighth Army front.
An explosion at Barrett Chemical in the Frankford section of Philadelphia killed Mrs. Marie Zolmerek, 38, a mother of two, and injured three others. The injured, including two women and a man, were rushed to Frankford Hospital. the blast is believed to have occurred in bottled chemicals.
London reports Allied air forces destroyed twenty six Nazi interceptors in western Europe yesterday. U S Air Force spokesmen say ten fell to bombarders gunners and sixteen to escort fighters as heavy bombers pressed operations.

James H Bateman 77 of West Middlesex passed away. He is survived by family and friends, with funeral arrangements to be announced by the Bateman family.
