An odd dispatch from New York recalls Will Rogers joining a frenzied sale of a farm tied to Mare quis of Queensberry. Ambassador from Chile and others attended, but bids failed as the crowd dispersed. Taf rey announced retirement.
Western Pennsylvania survey by the Fire Underwriters Board rates New Castle as low in fire insurance at 10 cents per hundred while Sharon and Farrell are 15 and 20 cents respectively. New Castle’s mills start full operation at midnight, steel plant at full capacity, and daylight savings time begins in two weeks. Anonymous letters plague the city but are ignored by The News. Road work on Wilmington road progresses from Walmo toward New Wilmington with stone berms added. Senior class photos show varied appearances. Motorists give way to nests in the park. Julius Biaha of 432 East Winter avenue sold butter and eggs for John Fike in Pittsburgh after turning 21. In 1912 he married, later joined Metropolitan Insurance as an agent, and in 1923 became manager of the New Castle district covering Lawrence and Mercer counties before moving there.
Colin Campbell, an engineer from Elizabeth New Jersey, must stand trial for the murder of Mrs Mildred Mowry of Greenville Virginia. The body was found burning in gasoline near Greenville on February 23. Prosecutor Abe J David of Union said no plea of non vult will be accepted if convicted he faces the electric chair. Campbell denied involvement with Miss Margaret Browns death. Noted attorney Francis A Gordon said he had no arrangement with Campbell's family yet. Sister Arminta Jackson arrives from Falls Township to claim the body. Continued on page two.
A large throng gathers in New York to honor the late Ambassador Myron T. Herrick as his casket, draped in an American flag, is brought ashore from the French cruiser Tourville escorted by U S and French vessels. Prominent figures including Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh attend the ceremony aboard the ship. The coffin rests beneath two large guns and is guarded by French sailors, while officials and citizens pay tribute.
Harrisburg April 18. The Department of Highways announced bids for 21 road and bridge projects opened Thursday and Friday. Awards went to low bidders, with projects in Columbia Beaver and Potter counties held under advisement.

Printing jams threaten to push adjournment into midweek next week as readers warn the session remains “well out of the woods.” Leaders fear important late committee measures may be lost amid the shuffle while administration and GOP leaders push for a voting machine bill to pass as the governor desires. Chicago April 13 two gangsters were found shot to death in an automobile at the rear of the Western Hotel Cicero. One victim William Clifford reportedly carried a long police reward. The other was Michael Reid noted as a racketeer. Police link the killings to an echo of Moran gang violence and Capone era activity.
Harmony executive Harry Ethridge told New Castle on Friday April 12 that the city is on the upgrade with expected prosperity. He cited a three month rise in passenger service between New Castle Ellwood City and Beaver and a steady increase in freight traffic, linking it to a bright industrial outlook and good times ahead.
A New Castle Chamber of Commerce committee plans immediate establishment of an airplane factory. The group, about 20 members, will proceed without an intensive fundraising drive though some financial backing is needed. The project, led by W. J. Offutt, has been under study for weeks.
Mexico City reports definite plans for Colonel Charles A Lindbergh and Miss Anne Spencer Morrow to wed at Englewood New Jersey in early June with the Morrow family returning to the United States to prepare the trousseau The wedding location will be finalized after the family arrives in Englewood due to changing conditions in Mexico and the couple’s summer plans nearby.
Work on the west bridge abutment at the North Street bridge over the Ne shannock is finished and forms have been removed. Crews are clearing the earthen work from the excavation and construction is expected to start soon. Steel for the bridge is arriving and more is on the way. Walter and Gabriel of Sciato Street recently visited Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Sophia Eidenmiller aged 77 died in Bn yond City. Victor Cataldo aged 58 died in Wilwood City.
Will of the late Mrs Glora McDowell Carley of Sharon grants the Almira Home an annual thousand dollar sum for maintenance, with letters testamentary issued to the McDowell National Bank trust department of Sharon. The phrase charitable bequest notes funds for local institutions and upkeep.
Kalamazoo Michigan April 13 three small children and their maid were burned to death in a fire of mysterious origin at the home of Leroy Curran. The father rushed from the blaze for aid and collapsed when told the children could not be saved. His wife was in a hospital and not informed. The dead children were Claire three Marilyn four and two year old John.
The Pentecostal Tabernacle has purchased the Pearson Street church, longtime home of the Epworth Methodist Episcopal congregation. The Epworth site on Pearson Street will be used by the Pentecostal Tabernacle after the Epworth members move into their proposed new building on South Street. Rev. Thomas J. Logan announced the plan at a prayer service, noting the Epworth sale could be completed for cash if feasible and that work on the new Epworth house would be hurried to completion.

Washington April 13 The newest legislative remedy for the farm problem completed today at both ends of the Capitol for submission to Congress when it meets Monday in a special session. The house and senate bills differ slightly in phrasing but provide for the creation of a federal farm board and nationwide stabilization corporations for farm products with a 325 million revolving fund.
Washington April 13 Weath er outlook for April 15 to 20 shows showers in the Middle Atlantic States Monday and over the Middle and North Atlantic States Wednesday. Rising temperatures in New England with moderate warmth elsewhere. Above normal temperatures mid to late week. Ohio Valley sees showers Monday or Tuesday then mainly fair weather with a return of showers at week end.
City bids to purchase two seven passenger touring autos for the police department. The department will retain the current fleet and consider trading one officer’s vehicle. Mrs Clarence Coates of Cleveland and Mrs Pherson of Wildwood avenue are mentioned in connection with a local social note.
