Neshannock abandons spring cleanup over rising costs
Neshannock Township will skip its annual spring cleanup this year as costs rise. Supervisor McNicholas failed to win support for a May trash collection, with John Cater and Gale Measel citing doubled disposal rates to 28 dollars per load plus mileage and loss of federal funding. They proposed reallocating 12,000 to 15,000 dollars to sewer or road work instead. DiCola noted 75 to 80 percent participation in past years and warned leaves and trash cannot be collected together.

Heroes Mayor commends three rescuers for courage

Unidentified woman found injured in Hillsville Quarry
Police seek identity of a 35 to 40 year old white woman found unconscious with head injuries in Hillsville Quarry off Township Route 453 at 12:30 a.m. She was taken to Jameson Memorial Hospital by Bessemer Rescue and later moved to St Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. She wears a lavender gray zipped sweater shirt and has a vertical abdominal scar. Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police barracks.

Ferry capsizes off Gulf of Thailandีก
A passenger ferry from a resort island capsized in a sudden squall in the Gulf of Thailand. At least 16 people are dead and 34 are missing. Sixty three passengers were rescued. Navy ships and police boats joined the search near Surat Thani province, 350 miles south of Bangkok. The squall subsided after the capsize and did not greatly hinder rescues.
