CIO President Philip Murray returns seeking a wage settlement with big steel in extending talks with U S Steel subsidiaries. The next zero hour lands Tuesday midnight unless extended or new agreement reached.
Berlin reports the German high command says 40,000 Greek troops were taken prisoner east of the Vardar river after Salonika fell. The dispatch notes the total could rise toward 100,000 as units are rounded up.

Southern operators resist a flat 78 day basic wage and maintain a 40 cent wage differential between north and south.
Berlin suffered heavy bombardment by RAF and US-made bombers with intense raids described as among the war's heaviest. Meanwhile German forces raided the northeast of England and the midlands including Birmingham, causing large fires in factories and docks at Newcastle and harbor areas.
