The house finalized adjustments on the Payne bill. Lumber kept at half the Dingley rate. Hides free. Oil free. Tea free. Coffee free. Barley raised from 15 to 24 cents per bushel. Barley malt increased from 25 to 40 cents per bushel.
The Payne tariff bill moves to the Senate after a house passage at 8:15 pm. Browning delivers the bill to Vice President Sherman, Aldrich moves to refer to the finance committee, and the Senate plans revisions to align with revenue goals while guarding industries.
Joseph Gibbia and Joseph Spalla former South Jefferson street merchants were sentenced by Judge Porter.
