Two men charged in theft from Hall of Fame player Bell
Ed Grybowski and Robert Retort, both accused of stealing memorabilia from James Bell known as Cool Papa Bell, were arrested in a case involving interstate transport of stolen property. FBI and local police said the items valued at over 300000 included uniforms gloves hats bats and photographs. Bell, 86 and ill, said the men used slick talk and intimidation and removed boxes of items from his north St. Louis home during several visits in March.

Shuttle to carry telescope into space on Discovery flight

FBI reports rise in Pittsburgh crime near New York levels
FBI figures show a 3 percent national crime rise from 1988 to 1989 with Philadelphia posting an 16 percent increase yet remaining below most major cities. Pittsburghs rate was 94 per 1000, near New Yorks 97, while Dallas led with 167. Auto theft rose 24 percent and murders up 26 percent, lifting overall violent crime.

6-year-old Wexford boy drowns at McConnell's Mill
A six year old boy from Wexford drowned Saturday afternoon at McConnell's Mill State Park along Slippery Rock Creek. Sean DeArment slipped into the water around 2 15 p.m. while with his father and two brothers. He was found at 6 30 p.m. and died at Allegheny General Hospital at 7 18 p.m. State police classify the incident as accidental. Firefighters from multiple towns aided in the rescue.
