Elmer Double Sr. 59 of New Kensington Pa. was to be taken to Butler county jail to await arraignment on a murder charge related to the death of his sister Mrs Laura Double Kelly 75 whose mutilated body was found in a well on her Slippery Rock area farm. Double was arrested in Washington and brought to the state police barracks.
Reports of loose dogs and resident complaints prompt speculation that Mayor Charles E. McGrath will seek council appointment of a dog catcher to address the problem.
The 17 year old Dick August of Grove City, a Valley Forge Military Academy honor student, died in the TWA crash near Uniontown after leaving Camden New Jersey for Easter vacation. He traveled with three academy friends including Crawford Kelley of McKeesport. all were among eleven killed. The boy had never flown before and the family awaits further details at home.
Mercer April 8. John Royle 75 retired oil man of Leesburg died in Mercer Cottage hospital at 12 15 this afternoon from injuries suffered about 10 45 this morning when struck by neighbor Thomas Brenneman's automobile Royle stepped in front of the car at Scollard's Crossing near Leesburg Tests showed a probable skull fracture and a compound fracture of the left leg
Stewardess Nellie Granger rescued two passengers from a flaming transport plane that crashed on the Allegheny slopes near Uniontown Pennsylvania. After dragging Mrs Meyer Ellenstien wife of Newark mayor and C G Challinor of Cleveland from the wreck she walked four miles to a farmhouse to telephone news and led a rescue party back to the scene before receiving aid. The crash occurred in thick fog according to Miss Granger.
Nellie Grange, a TWA hostess, recounts a rough mountain crash by telephone from Uniontown to Jack Frye. She describes thick weather, roaring engines, and a pilot's rough timetable as the event unfolds.
Westminster College in New Wilmington announced Rev. Dr. Bernard C. Clausen of Pittsburgh as the commencement speaker for the eighty second annual ceremony on June 8. Examinations run May 28 to June 4, with graduation four days later.
