Delmas today made defense arguments as testimony in the thaw case abruptly ended. An explosion at the Burton Powder company plant near Hillsville killed Jack Cain about 22 and fatally injured Isaac Cowander while laborer John Mackey was blown 40 feet from the scene. The injured were taken to Youngstown hospital. This is the plant’s second blast in 18 months.
An auditor will also be a non resident. The notes indicate a painter may switch to a new job after leaving the band.
Justice Fitzgerald grows weary of delays as money matters regarding the bank’s affairs are to be resolved. Jurors received a short leave, and the case moves toward a verdict or further action in the city.

Harrisburg reports say the state board of trade pushes the Dunsmore bill creating a state railroad commission. The measure passed the house and heads to the senate. governor Stuart supports it and calendar constraints push adjournment to May 16.

Mayor Hainer meets with select council to clear the confirmation of appointees led by J. E. Barteaux as street commissioner. Barteaux’s confirmation hinges on his performance, with promises of department reform and reduced expenses. Other hires include mercantile appraiser Harry Rabinovitz, director of health Horner, J. Adam Harner Sr. and W. S. Devlin retained, and five new officers including Italian interpreter Thomas Augustine.
Judge Porter appointed Rufus C. McKinley as receiver for the Mahoningtown bank with bond set at 110000 and William R. McKee as receiver for the New Castle Amusement Company operating the Coliseum, with bond 2000. He warned against political interference in future appointments and discouraged candidates relying on electioneer friends.

A major blaze at the Metropolitan street railway power plant and car barns in New York killed Captain John Ryan and injured fourteen others, including Frederick J. Leopold. Explosions blew walls out and six men burned as the plant and about 200 street cars suffered near one million dollars in losses.

Miss Selma Brunner demands 10000 for breach of promise from Arthur Dudley. William R Hearst to attend Brooklyn Democratic Jefferson dinner April 16 with William J Bryan. Frank W Hill, discharged stenographer, arraigned for publishing a private letter. Supreme Court: Isle of Pines part of Cuba for duties, not U S. New York Cotton Exchange may issue quotation restrictions.
Old North Church in Boston built in 1723 faces disuse as finances shrink and former active members depart. The 1723 brick church, famed for the Paul Revere lantern signal event, is advertised for sale due to financial straits.
New Roosevelt Square will be built in Tokio to hold a bronze statue of the U S president. The plan was cabled to T Asabuki of New Orleans, son of a Japanese millionaire citizen, confirming the honor.
Sabian, an Austrian resident of 460 Moravia Street, died suddenly Sunday noon at his boarding house after returning from work at the Greer tin mill. Heart failure and exhaustion caused his death at age 36. his wife and child, living in the old country, survive. Funeral held Monday at 1 PM with interment in Greenwood cemetery.
Moravia street furniture dealer Jacob Marlin was struck on the head by a chair he accidentally dislodged from the wall. A three inch scalp wound required several stitches.
Merrel Moon the four month old son of Mr and Mrs George Moon of Newport near Wampum died Sunday at 11 am at the family home after a two week illness from rheumatism. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 pm at the residence with burial at Newport.
William Ralph a Pennsylvania brakeman formerly in this city fell from his train this morning at Conway and was killed, his home in Mercer County.
Cooler tonight with showers near Lake Erie. Tuesday will be fair across the region.
The Pittsburg synod of the Evangelical Lutheran churches in the Erie conference opened Monday at North East Pennsylvania. Rev. J. H. Miller of St. John's church will speak Tuesday evening on The Work of the Mens Societies. The conference remains in session for three days.
Two steel mill workers suffered finger loss in separate weekend incidents. John Powell pinched his right hand and amputated the first two fingers. John Kroch lost one finger in a morning injury. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.
James O'Donnell of South Mill Street, a roller in the Greer mill, developed a severe blood poisoning from a slight cut on his hand several days ago. He is unable to work while doctors hope no serious results follow.
Will Moore of South Jefferson Street, an opener at the Shenango mill, is reported in serious condition with typhoid fever. Doctors fear he may not survive the illness.
Ben Dumars and Mrs. D. B. McCormick of Greenville who eloped were captured at Sharon Saturday and confined at Mercer jail.
Several Youngstown men who believe they have been indicted by the grand jury left that city Saturday night for destinations in Pennsylvania.
A Saturday conference between New Castle Savings and Trust directors and a special committee of smaller stockholders ended without results. No definite proposals were presented though interest in reorganizing the bank was noted and another meeting was planned in a few days.

The late Dr H E McMillin of the Seventh ward held a life insurance policy for ten thousand dollars with New York Life Insurance Company taken out about two years ago.
