City to release names of delinquent loaned businesses Tuesday

New Castle solicitor Larry Kelly said information on which businesses owe city money will be made public Tuesday after a 60 day period set by Mayor Richard Christofer. Notices were sent urging owners to settle or risk court action to force disclosure. Three or four attorneys have said they may file against the move.

First Western to buy former Fishers Big Wheel site

First Western Bancorp signs to purchase the former Fishers Big Wheel retail building on Wilmington Road in Neshannock Township with about four acres of land. Expected possession around May 1, closing pending contingencies. The 1971 structure will be renovated into the consolidat ed operations center for the bank. About 200 employees will move from the Universal Bundle building in downtown New Castle by the end of the third quarter.

Town work resumes on street north of Grant after repair

About Town reports North Mercer Street, rebuilt after Christmas to fix a water line break at the Grant Street intersection, underwent another cut this week a short distance north of Grant Street.

In San Francisco a Superior Court filing by Richard Julien owner of the house used in Mrs. Doubtfire accuses producers of breach of contract for letting children and animals run wild through his late mother's bedroom and cutting trees during filming. Julien seeks unspecified damages while Robin Eickman the film coordinator says the set was left in better condition.

Ellwood City Cocaine and Marijuana Bust

A large drug arrest occurred in Ellwood City when Victor Dwayne Jefferson, 27, of New Castle, tried to sell 9 ounces of cocaine and 4 pounds of marijuana to an undercover officer. The month-long operation culminated in a coordinated takedown in the McDonald’s parking lot on Fifth Street. Jefferson fled but was captured as officers closed in.

Lawence County Drug Bust Ties to Attorney General Office

Lawrence County prosecutors and police describe the arrest as a coordinated effort to fight drugs. Jefferson, arraigned before District Justice Samuel Battaglia, faces three counts each of possession and delivery related to a 1 ounce cocaine sale and 9 ounces of cocaine plus 4 pounds of marijuana. Bond set at 115000. potential 50 years and 441000 in fines. Assisting agencies include Hutchison, the county drug task force, Pennsylvania State Police and deputy Randy Tallon with canine Rudy.
