He had been held on a forgery charge involving an American Express check and erasing the payee. Detectives nabbed a suspect later that afternoon and Brown was returned to custody. An improvised plank in his cell had been used to pry the bars open, suggesting possible help from an accomplice. Authorities consider tightening cell security after the escape.
