Windy night in Youngstown causes widespread damage

Heavy winds leveled alarms and damaged property across the city. Police reported 12 wind damage incidents, 12 burglar alarms triggered, and debris littering streets. A roof was ripped from the Agway station, a traffic light toppled, and windows shattered at City Sporting Goods and Bordonaro's Trophy Co. Numerous signs were blown loose and a tree fell in Gaston Park blocking a road.

Man charged in homicide case held over to grand jury

The March 17 murder of Robert Buter is tied to James Madison, 34, of 7 E Euclid Ave, who faces criminal homicide and first degree murder charges after a five hour hearing. Prosecution witness Sarah Antonucci described the events while a 22-year-old woman was charged with aiding the crime. The shooting occurred early March 17 at See MURDER, page 5.

County housing grant to fund seven Lawrence projects

Lawrence County Housing Authority will receive 500000 to improve seven housing projects this year. Executive director Charles J. Kraus said HUD informed approval is likely in three to four weeks, though the authority sought 1230893 for improvements in twelve projects. One approved item covers fire alarm hookups for elderly high rise buildings to the city fire department.

Work delays to reduce leak at Three Mile Island plant

Engineers at the Three Mile Island plant delayed an attempt to degas radioactive gases from an auxiliary building into the dome after a valve failed to open. NRC spokesman Carl Abraham said the test was ongoing with no clear restart estimate, as officials continued to warn pregnant people near the site about ongoing low level radiation releases.
