Great composer Stravinsky dies
Igor Stravinsky, the Russian born composer who fathered modern classical music, died in his New York apartment at age 88 after a heart condition. He worked vigorously until shortly before his death and was hospitalized last April for heart problems. Born June 17 1882 in St Petersburg he studied law before turning to music and became a pupil of Rimsky Korsakov. His works include The Firebird and Le Sacre du Printemps and he influenced many younger composers.

Two men receive county jail terms in sentencing
Edwin Kudelski, 42, of 2503 Willowhurst Circle, gets six to 12 months for drunken driving and failure to stop. He faced an April 28, 1970, crash that fatally injured a pedestrian, Mrs. Marianna Caruso, at Butler Ave and E Washington St after pleading guilty following a November grand jury indictment. Phillip Hall, 31, of 707 E Main St, receives 1142 to 23 months for pointing a deadly weapon and obstructing an officer after a January 1970 incident at St Mary’s Church where he allegedly held a priest at gunpoint. Gary Strawhecker, 1101 Shaffer Road, is fined $275 and placed on one year probation for drunken driving.

The Ireland born nun spent three days in January after refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating a plot to kidnap Henry Kissinger.
