Captain George H. Wilkins and pilot Carl Eielson wait at Point Barrow for a takeoff on a planned North Pole to Spitzbergen flight. Cloudy skies delayed departure, radio reports say a launch may occur if conditions clear. Storms have abated but further weather could postpone again.

In Wheeling West Virginia on April 6, plaster er William Pratt 45 was shot and killed by business partner Fred Voltz 55 after an argument in the Voltz shop behind his home. Voltz then shot himself and died later at Wheeling hospital. Pratt resided in Warwood and was married.
Earl Dilks of New Castle, Pa., finished yesterday's lap in 9:24A2, giving an elapsed time for the distance from Los Angeles of 278:30:34. Pat Demarr, Los Angeles fighter, led the march through 37 miles of snow sleet and rain from Vega to Amarillo, covering the 42 miles in 5:29:42.
Robert Stevens fourteen, youngest ever tried for murder in Allegheny county, was acquitted by a county court jury. He was charged with slaying and robbing a ragged stranger on the Monongahela riverbanks last September alongside Alvin Hess, sixteen, who was convicted last week.
Havana officials report a blaze at three Standard Oil plants in Regla controlled after burning out. US sailors from the Wyoming aided fire crews, 19 sailors overcome by fumes, 41 residents injured, one woman. Eleven storage tanks destroyed as the massive $15 million complex burned visibly for miles.
Elaborate preparations are under way for Chauncey Depews funeral in New York City. The distinguished statesman dies at ninety four and burial will be in Peekskill N Y. President Coolidge hopes to attend from Washington and numerous notables will be present. Messages of condolence reach Mrs Depew as Union League Club members plan a body procession.
Councilman W. T. Burns announced during a city council session that the city agreed to a Woods & Golder contract to pave Sheridan Avenue from Mercer Street to Highland Avenue. The bond of $1985.75 was approved contingent on the city engineer's review.
The Zingling Family circus at the Y M C A drew near to a full house with almost 100 performers from the Y M and Y W C A groups. Clowns of all types entertained while the cast, led by Miss Dorothy Stewart, earned praise for teamwork and display despite a restless crowd at the finale.
John Gorence a 75 year old resident of Bessemer was found dead yesterday in his small home. Neighbors reported no smoke or activity from the shack and coroner J P Caldwell was notified. He had suffered rheumatism and pneumonia is suspected as the cause. Survived by one daughter in Barberton Ohio his wife having died earlier. Funeral services set this afternoon at St Anthony s church in Bessemer.
Obituary notes Mrs. Margaret F Phillips aged 73 from Mahoning Township and John Georence aged 75 of Bessemer. No further details provided.
Judges and district attorneys from across Pennsylvania met in Philadelphia to discuss modernising criminal court methods and draft constitutional amendments for the commission on penal law. Chief Justice Robert Von Moschisker opened the conference stressing updated rules and prompt administration as crime deterrents. City officials and residents then urged paving on South Jefferson street between the New Castle hospital Hill and Long avenue citing high roadbeds and rain litter.
In Philadelphia on April 6 Harry Biemiller 43, foreman and father of six, sacrificed his life to save three workers from an oil tank blast at the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad yards. He urged others through a narrow opening before collapsing, as rescuers finally pulled him to safety. he died shortly after admission to a hospital.
City council approved an ordinance for grading and paving Albert Street between Leasure and Norwood avenues. The thoroughfare will be paved with vitrified blocks reinforced concrete or an approved asphalt form.
Federal Radio Commission figures show eight percent of the nation’s 5,257,000 radio receivers are in Pennsylvania for a total of about 613,000 sets. New York leads with twelve percent, followed by California and Illinois at seven percent each. Ohio four to six percent and Michigan four percent.
