Senate ok of 35 million teachers' salary bill faces House challenge

Madison rejects cease fire referendum in Vietnam war vote

In Madison Wisconsin voters spurned a proposal calling for immediate cease fire and withdrawal of American troops from Vietnam. Fifty seven percent opposed the measure with 27 555 votes, 43 percent supported it with 20 523 ballots. The city population surrounds the University of Wisconsin main campus. The tally topped San Francisco support from a similar measure last November.

McCarthy tops Johnson in Wisconsin primary race

Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy defeats the phantom Johnson candidacy in the Wisconsin Democratic primary and heads toward clashes with Sen. Robert F. Kennedy as Nixon dominates the Republican contest with 80 percent and Reagan inactive. Kennedy write ins and crossovers boost McCarthy while Johnson exits the race.

Wintry Storm Strikes Nation’s Midsection

Blizzard like conditions spread across Wyoming and Colorado with winds up to 56 mph. Laramie faced over an hour of power loss as roads were closed and snow depth reached nine to fifteen inches. Cheyenne logged 59 mph winds and widespread power lines were toppled amid hazardous driving across the Rocky Mountain and Plains regions.
