Rev Samuel Robert Maitland aged 70 died at his home on Pulaski Road after a period of illness He was a minister and former pastor of Greenwood Methodist Church serving 1918 to 1934 He is survived by his wife Lydia Dean Maitland a daughter Mrs Forbes Reynolds of Arlington Virginia two grandchildren Dorothy and Sammy Reynolds and three brothers William Maitland of Los Angeles California and others listed in the New Castle obituary notice
A British radio report picked up in New York said the tanker FS Clervo fought a running battle off Trinidad with a German U-boat on March 4. The crew believed they sank the submarine when it surfaced 14 yards away and then disappeared after El Clervo opened fire.
