Eisenhower Funeral Rites At National Cathedral
Dwight D. Eisenhower lay in state and was honored in a simple dignified funeral at Washington National Cathedral. Words from St. Paul were read over the casket as Mamie Eisenhower endured with quiet stoicism, while dignitaries including France's Charles de Gaulle and Belgium's king watched. The service included The Palms hymn requested by Eisenhower and concluded with a benediction and the of Onward Christian Soldiers as the casket was carried to the hearse for the trip home to Kansas.
