School Tax Fixed Today at New Castle 12.5 Mills Increase
At a special noon meeting the New Castle school board set the ensuing year's tax millage at 12.5 mills, up 4 mills from the first year. The vote was unanimous and business proceeded as usual. The Merchants and Manufacturers Club of Hillwood City was dissolved upon a petition granted by Wade Minasy this morning.

March Fire Calls Set New City Record
Three fire alarms yesterday pushed the city to a record March total with 145 alarms for the year so far. Grass fires accounted for most incidents across the city, starting at 11:40 a.m. on Washington and Rose streets. A 3 p.m. roof fire at 124 Shenango Street caused minor damage to Mrs Brown, then 6:25 p.m. grass fire on the McCary estate property marked the final alarm.

New Castle Boy Receives Gold Medal for Gallant Conduct
C. H. Robinson of New Castle has earned a gold medal for gallant conduct under fire with the United States Marines. Wounded in action about February 1, his head was injured by bomb fragments but he is recovering at a Red Cross hospital and returning to duty. He enlisted March 27 of last year and praises Army doctors and nurses in a letter home to his mother Mrs. L. Robinson of Green Street.

Germans Halted Along Line Near Albert Amid Hard Fighting
British and French forces countered near Hangard En Santerre and Montdidier driving Germans from Hangard En Santerre while repulsing attacks northwest of Montdidier.
