Fred Rochelle a 35 year old Black man was captured and burned to death by a mob in Bartow Florida after he assaulted and murdered Mrs Rena Taggart a respected white woman. The vigilante execution followed a manhunt that ended at the lake near Placidas Creek with a crowd witnessing the burning.
Chicago May 30 Rev Richard D Harlan of Rochester New York son of Justice Juin Marshall Harlan and brother of Attorney General James Harlan of Porto Rico has been tendered the presidency of Lake Forest University. Decision expected within a week.
In Niles Michigan last night a four passenger train struck a group of gyp sies near a Wezon crossing. Euhel Whipple six years old was killed. Her brother Pabst was fatally injured and Charles Whipple the catcher was badly hurt.
The New York incident involves Dr. Aug ust M Unger and his brother found dead at the Grand Union hotel. Coroner verdict cites death by poison with a life policy directing funds to a sister, with Dr Unger named trustee though control limited by American Surety Co.
In Memphis on May 3 the Confederate Veterans reassembled and re-elected General John B. Gordon as commander-in-chief. The group decided to start fundraising for a Battle Abbey in Richmond, with funds already in hand. St Joseph Missouri May 30. E H Lamber son once a Wallace Missouri resident and Methodist Sunday school superintendent was arrested Tuesday night after stealing a horse and buggy. He died by suicide while being driven to the police station.
In Pleasanton Kansas on May 30 Harry Norman aged 18 and Todd Blakey aged 11 drowned in the Marais-des-Cyzne river. Blakey struggled in deep water and Norman attempted a rescue. both deaths were caused by the flood current.
The Bradner branch of the Mechanics’ Bank of Fostoria was wrecked by robbers, and about 4000 dollars were stolen. Police investigations are underway as the incident disrupts local banking services and alarms residents.

Charles Gros a longtime Delphi resident and one of the Forty Niners died instantly when struck by a northbound Monon freight engine as bystanders watched a Wabash gravel train unload one mile east of town. He had retired from business after half a century in Delphi and helped locate the oil well recently found in California.
Charles Eh inger, a well known young man from Decatur Indiana, drowned himself in St. Marys river Tuesday night after spending the evening in a saloon. He left about 11 PM saying he intended to drown himself. authorities investigated the incident.
Yesterday his hat and umbrella were found on the river bank and soon after his body was recovered in the river. In Madison Kentucky George Wolf chief of police of Seymour with Sheriff Averitt and a Trimble county posse arrested James Floyd and his wife at their home seven miles south of the city. They were sent to Bedford Kentucky and will be brought to Indiana under requisition papers to answer for deserting and causing the death of their babe near Seymour. In Indianapolis the state conference of health officers voted to back the state board of health in not following the Louttit amendment to the compulsory education law. The conference held that children from infected homes should be excluded from schools despite the amendment.
Goshen Indiana May 30 Township Trustee J B Walk former mayor was found dead yesterday afternoon in his office hanging by a rope attached to a gas pipe about four feet from the chair He had been in ill health for a year and despondent since a failed drug business three years ago.
Prof. George Parks magnetic healer was fined 25 dollars in Bedford Indiana circuit court for violating the new law prohibiting faith doctors using the title Dr or M D. An appeal was immediately taken to the state supreme court.
The large multi story Kokomo Dry Goods company building in Kokomo Indiana was gutted by fire yesterday. The loss is estimated at 35000 with 30000 insured. Fire authorities are investigating the blaze.
