The Speaker Wrangler winners are Florence Lambdin Ruth Ewing Marietta Sher and Naomi Kerner. The group impressed with yearlong effort and led charity events including a Thanksgiving dinner for seventy five poor children and Christmas baskets and gifts for multiple families.
The senior class will present the comedy David Garrick by T W Robertson in the school auditorium. Shirley Spicer stars as the title role with Emily Spaulding as Ada Ingot, Gayland Burkhart as Simon Ingot, and Chester Lowe as Squire Chivy in a tale of love and deception ending in a happy union.
Several copies of Thursday's Tribune edition with photos and write ups of all New Albany High School graduates remain at the Tribune office. Copies can be mailed to send to friends in other cities.
A crowd at the High school auditorium received an extra Blotter edition during last night’s commencement. The extra contained the full commencement exercises and addresses by Dr. Bryan and Prof. Buerk. The issue, issued Thursday, mirrored a previous Chamber of Commerce banquet edition and signals New Albany’s growing newspaper activity.
Owing to weather conditions the 500 mile automobile race scheduled for tomorrow at the Indianapolis Speedway was postponed by Speedway officials until next Monday. The postponement notice was issued from the Speedway office.
James Sutton, seventeen, fled from Milltown yesterday and was found at the Southern passenger depot by Patrolman Helm. His father requested he be held via telephone and this morning retrieved him from the depot to return home.
The city of New Albany and Milroy Construction Company signed a contract for East Market between Bank and Fifth streets. Work must start by June 15 and finish by October 15 with a $2,500 five year maintenance bond.
At a public works meeting the board read a list of property owners with bad sidewalks and ordered A C Taylor to notify them to lay concrete walks. The west Charlestown road sidewalk assessment was adopted while bids for the east side are due June 10. A watering fountain contract on Main Street at Scribner Park was set at 9.45 dollars. four bids ranged up to 35 dollars. The Floyd County Lumber Co. won a bid to screen the city hall ground floor. Fire hydrant and electric arc light requests were filed. Lopp won contracts for Silver Grove and annexed territory at 100 and 250 dollars per year. A Epworth League talk on children's welfare is planned for Sunday evening with Lizzie Reisinger leading. Mary Cardwill and Charles M. Zink will speak on the town’s children. Elmer C. Foust and Mary B. Smith wed February 3. they will live in Glenwood Place.
Three boxes of hospital supplies donated by the city public schools for Belgian relief arrived safely. A letter from Lindon W. Bates of New York, vice chairman of the Commission for Relief in Belgium, confirms shipment via Crutcher Brothers and New Orleans to the steamer Glenshiel, sailing March 28.
The Calumet Club hosted its second informal ladies reception at 2128 East Spring Street with dancing, a five hundred tournament won by Miss Florence Moss of Louisville and Miss Mary Harmon, and refreshments. Prizes were two flower baskets. Cartoons by A Millican drew interest amid fern and palm decor. guests included numerous Louisville ladies, club members, and chaperones Mrs. Herman Borgerding and Mrs. E F Peters.
