A Lynchburg Virginia resident, Mrs. D. W. Timberlake, writes that Peruna steadies nerves, invigorates the brain, and cleanses the blood after work. She calls it a great spring tonic and says she has used many others with no better results.
May 18 dispatch from St. Petersburg reports a hush from Manchuria and word that Vice Admiral Rojestvensky may have left for Vladivostok or Togo. Observers note the fleet’s silence, possible relief requests, and hints of Biriloff or Voelkersam leadership in a broad mobilization as Russia readies for further action under Gen. Linevitch.
Abraham Levy, who defended Nan Patterson through three trials, announces he has withdrawn completely. He says Patterson intends to accept an offer from a theatrical manager and that his work is finished and his hands are cleared after securing her discharge.
Brazil Indiana May 18 The city council passed an ordinance naming streets and defining license units for saloons. Eight of the forty six saloons in the city will go out of business when current licenses expire.

Nearly 1,000 members attend the Indiana I O O F Grand Lodge semi annual communication. Reports show 474 net statewide membership gain for six months ending December 31 1904 and 66 320 total membership. Total relief for six months 120 772.08 and year 273 553.20. State resources amount to 3 287 23 41 with debts 415 272 65 leaving net resources 2 871 950 76.
The Indiana Daughters of Rebekah elected officers at the annual assembly. Tina K. Mann of Muncie was named president, Nellie Lindsay of Kokomo vice president, Louise Langfard of Lebanon warden, Artie S. Andrews of Lafayette secretary, Arnetta Brehm of Noblesville treasurer. Trustees selected were Roxy Hathaway of Aurora Florence Broadhead of Rushville and Sallie Jackson.
Hartford City Indiana May 18 the city council voted unanimously that Mayor James Lucas must stop gambling and strictly enforce liquor laws. A three member committee will monitor him for two weeks on probation with salary set at 200 dollars if he complies and 500 dollars if he runs the city as demanded. All councilmen and the mayor are Democrats.
May 18 Covington Indiana election rejected a subsidy of 1144 per cent tax for Fountain Warren Traction interurban line from Covington via Stone Bluff Newtown and Odell to Lafayette by 316 against to 247 for. The appropriation would have totaled about 35000 dollars with farmers opposing and locals supporting through the Covington Commercial club.
Jacob Kern nineteen, sole support of his elderly mother, was electrocuted near Andrews Indiana with his hands burned and body blackened. The body was found near the track gripping a span of live wire hanging from the Wabash Valley Traction lines.
New Castle Indiana May 18 Miss May Moore longtime public school teacher marked twenty five years of service yesterday. The school board and teachers honored her with a handsome silver set after she taught about 1800 pupils over the quarter century.
Enock Carlson eight years old was shot and killed by a former Peabody Coal employee amid tension from the teamsters strike. Two African American men fled after a revolver discharged as boys jeered them on Twenty seventh Street. Carlson died en route to hospital.
Mrs. Elizab eth Kleisinger, victim of an attempted assault in Westville, lies at the point of death in Leporte Indiana on May 18. Dewitt, the assailant, is an ex convict and described as a degenerate. Local tension rises as the community fears potential outbreaks if she dies.
Chicago May 18 detectives raided the Belmont Corresponding club at 12 14 State Street arresting three. They seized several thousand letters and photographs. Arrestees Oscar Wells Doc Moses and M Felcher charged with disorderly conduct and released on bonds. Police say the club did a large business. Prisoners declined to discuss the arrest.

The leading Atlantic steered eastward toward a wind dead ahead as the 90-foot American yaw Ailsa clashed with the German schooner Hampurg. Behind, the Endymion held the trans Atlantic record while the Hildegarde faltered. Thistle Fleur de Lis Apache Sunbeam Utowana Valhalla trailed. Delays at the start pushed the clipper and two others to the rear.
London observers note growing interest in the trans Atlantic yacht race with reports from passing vessels expected to excite public enthusiasm. Experts favor the Atlantic from a technical view while English bettors back the Valhalla as a heavy awards favorite. Betting has not yet begun.

At the John Kee vor farm oil pumping station in Upland Indiana on May 18 a Huntington Light and Fuel employee was found dead after being caught in machinery. The man aged twenty had been dead about twelve hours.
The Ohio River near Evansville is close to the danger line, less than a foot away, while the Wabash River rises toward Mt. Carmel. Snow fell yesterday at Mt. Vernon and other nearby points in the region.
