President Roosevelt toured Grand Canyon Arizona for nine hours praising its unmatched beauty and urging preservation. Frederick C. G. Wellner, farmer and preacher of Mil tonville, Ohio, was found not guilty by a jury for the murder of his farm hand James Hatfield. Hatfield’s life had a $2,000 policy payable to Mrs Wellner, and Wellner contended Hatfield was killed when a horse bolted.
Vienna on May 7 reports a circulating claim that 9,000 Christians in Novi-Barer, European Turkey, were massacred by Muslims. the agency story is regarded as an invention. An Austrian force remains on orders of the Sanjak of Novi-Barer, with no disturbances reported in the region.

The American fishing schooner Gloriana, captain George Stoddart of Gloucester, ran ashore in thick fog near Whale Cove, White Point ledges, Canso. Of eighteen aboard, fifteen died, including the captain. three survivors clung to rigging through a brutal night as breakers crushed lifeboats and dories. One body recovered after dawn, with the wreck near the Tiber’s February 1902 tragedy.
In Manila a letter signed by four natives claimed General Miles visit to the Philippines aimed to aid anti imperialists. General Davis forwarded the letter to the War Department saying Miles' name was used unauthorized. Miles endorsed Davis view, agreeing the use of his name was wholly unauthorized.
In Townsend street Tony Crey killed an Italian and tried to shoot Officer Andrew Terry who took him into custody. The body lay two hours before removal as nearly 500 onlookers gathered. When police dispersed the crowd rioting arose and the corpse was trampled by many.
Washington May 7 the signing of The Hague protocol at the British embassy was postponed for the third time last night the British ambassador expressed hope for a prompt resumption of negotiations and a timely signing.

London May 1 Foreign Secretary Lansdowne proclaims a British Monroe doctrine for the Persian gulf warning rival powers that any attempt to establish a naval base or fortified post there would mean war with Great Britain. Indianapolis May 7 Mrs Anna Hibben charged with drawing deadly weapons and using profanity was jailed thirty days for contempt of court by Police Judge Whallon. The case had been postponed when she threatened witnesses as she left the courtroom. She was brought back and committed.
Jasper Indiana May 7 George R Wilson after holding the office of county superintendent for fourteen years declines to continue. Miss Helen Rosa a teacher in the public schools of this city is an avowed candidate for the position with promise of success. She has been a teacher for several years.
In Muncie William Patterson lies in serious condition after a Tuesday morning gunshot wound to the groin believed fatal. In Monticello Sheriff Stephenson traced a $65 robbery of Mrs. Manda Helvie to the culprit, money found in a dress sleeve. In Terre Haute Isaac Vanatte, an old soldier on furlough, found dead with a fractured skull beside Big Four tracks. In Bloomington Governor Durbin assures protection to Shively, a colored man previously warned to leave to avoid testifying against attackers.
In Muncie Elliott Zehner was struck with a hammer by Ervin Gray during a quarrel at Kitselman wire fence factory. Zehner sustained a skull fracture and was carried away unconscious. Gray is under arrest. Auburn judge Hartman dies in office. He served as judge of the Thirty fifth judicial circuit covering Dekalb and Steuben counties.
Terre Haute Indiana May 7 Patrick Kelley a toolworks employee drowned when a boat overturned during a fishing trip on the Wabash river. An accompanying young man survived. Also reported Memphis Tennessee doctor Dr H Rice a prominent physician killed himself at home by a shot through the roof of the mouth. motive unknown.
