Terre Haute Ind March 28 Present indications point to a suspension of work in Indiana bituminous coal fields after next Monday when the wage scale expires. A conference between miners and operators adjourned until Tuesday with the powder supply dispute unsettled and no settlement in sight.
Grand Secretary W H Leedy reports Indiana Loyal Order of Moose activity with seven new lodges, total 661 subordinate lodges, 53 387 active members, 18 577 past grands, and relief to 7 248 brothers plus 364 widowed families. Receipts total 521 030 76. working expenses 121 736 76. lodge expenses 22 709 90. Invested grand lodge funds amount to 54 000.
In Greensburg Indiana on March 28 the jury found Dr Conda Beck guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the high profile case. The decision follows a home invasion incident in which a burglar attempted to enter a window. the attendant scream and fright led to the victim's death.
In Danville Indiana on March 28 a jury acquits Guy Leachman of attempted murder after he testified self defense. The case stems from an October 31 rally incident when Louis Perkins struck Leachman and Leachman then shot Perkins as he approached. Perkins sues Leachman for 4000 dollars.
After 24 hours of deliberation Judge Jeffer discharged the jury that heard the Dr Garrett Leach case over the Richmond death. The trial involved an operation tied to John Diehl, the Anderson manufacturer now in prison. Initial balloted 8 to 4 for conviction, final vote 9 to 3 for the state.
Carrie Nation plans lectures at Towlinson hall next Sunday and will display her hatchet in a downtown window. Police will guard the so called bell gates saloons during her stay in Indianapolis beginning this weekend, with protection for the exhibition and crowd.
Fort Wayne officials announced the Western Association season opens April 25 with 140 games. The northern division includes Rapids, Fort Wayne, Toledo and Marion, while the southern division features Louisville, Dayton, Columbus and Indianapolis. A three-year agreement was reached.

General Frederica Funston leads a daring landing and expedition to Isabella in Luzon. Aguinaldo is captured March 23 and taken aboard the gunboat Vicksburg with Funston, ending a storied pursuit. The rugged Isabella province, remote and difficult terrain, hid the insurgent chief until his capture.

Shanghai March 27 The best authority says Li Hung Chang told ministers China refused to sign the Manchurian convention and instructed viceroys to the same effect. The court reportedly contemplates removing the capital from Pekin.
Washington reports Britain protested any proposed China Russia accord touching Manchurian affairs until China settles its internal troubles. The move aligns Britain with the United States and Japan against signing, alongside existing German ties, delaying the Manchurian convention.
Six American marines killed during the siege of the legations were removed from the Russian legation and prepared for shipment to the United States. Commander F. M. Wise sent a detachments of marines to attend the disinterment with two Russian companies taking part in the ceremonies. Russians guarded the bodies overnight and rendered military honors.
Mrs Carrie Nation toured North Vernon en route to Cincinnati and condemned 11 saloons as a hell hole. She denounced three drug stores for sharing the same evil status, prompting cheers from women until she singled out a woman with a feather in her hat, prompting the crowd to leave in protest.
In Kokomo Indiana on March 20 Dr L W Rayburn received a letter about a marriage fee from a couple wed by the late Rev Hayden Rayburn twenty six years earlier. The writer did not sign and fled with his bride as the minister hurried to perform the ceremony and collect the fee.
Ernest Bragg 16 son of the Rev Mr Bragg of the Baptist church disappeared last Friday while his parents attended services. A note found at home bearing his signature says he left for parts unknown and asks his parents not to trace him. He was a model youth and a high school student.
Mrs Ora Mallett aged 14 married last April to Joceph Mallett 28 files for divorce in Daviess circuit court alleging four months of threats with a revolver and eventual abandonment. Alleged murderer John Hewitt of South Bend captured in Houston Texas after being sought for the May killing of James Anderson.
