Powder Magazine Explosion Kills and Injures Dozens at Lowell

In Lowell Massachusetts two U S Cartridge Company powder magazines exploded amid mill cottages. Over twenty were killed including four boys two hundred yards away, about fifty injured, seventy structures destroyed and many homes burned. The catastrophe lasted seconds and debris was hurled across the river as flames engulfed the area.

Powder Mill Explodes Near Hoffmansville

The Rockdale Powder Company works at Hoffmansville Baltimore County exploded last night killing two workers. Authorities report a fatal industrial accident with extensive damage to the plant and surrounding area. Names of the deceased and exact cause were not immediately released.

Tragic derailment near Anderson kills teen and injures many

At a Belt railroad crossing a Union Traction car derailed after brake failure. Walter McGowan, a 15 year old Alexandria boy, was crushed to death as the car tumbled and landed beside a waiting room. One person died and twenty one were injured, none severely.
