Tokio July 27 Emperor and Empress hosted Secretary Taft and his party at the imperial palace with an audience and luncheon. Lloyd Griscom escorted Miss Alice Roosevelt as crowds lined the streets. The Emperor opened his private park for the visitors, a first for foreigners.
Washington report says the first business meeting at Portsmouth Navy Yard around Aug. 5 will carry Japan's peace terms to M. Witte. Japan seeks an indemnity to cover wartime costs and aims to present terms for acceptance without defiance. Neutral governments note Japan seeks lasting peace, not humiliation, in talks with Russia.
Miss Ella Off of 1127 Linden Street Indianapolis Indiana describes enduring a long run down constitution before trying Peruna on her doctor’s advice. She reports improved appetite, energy, sleep and a full recovery after several weeks and months of treatment. She thanks the remedy and notes confidential medical correspondence from Dr Hartman.

A Russian dispatch from Godavard Manchuria reports that on July 24 two Japanese torpedo boat destroyers approached Dekastrias harbor, took bearings of the isthmus with the lighthouse, landed and seized the Heathouse, and hoisted the Japanese flag.
In Lodz Russian Poland on July 27 a crowd of 2500 workers struck the Gey sers cotton mill after a foreman was fired and threatened to destroy the mill. A demonstration occurred but was dispersed by Cossacks who arrested 200 workers.
State Senator William Armstrong has sent notices to his senatorial and assembly colleagues to form a joint legislative committee to study life insurance in New York. The group will meet in Albany for organization next Tuesday.
Logansport Indiana July 27 W T Wilson seeks removal of Wallace B Smith deputy game warden alleging abuse of office. Earlier Daniel Tarver, an elderly citizen, faced a $75 fine at Smiths instigation for possessing a sense unused for four years.
Six deaths were recorded yesterday up to 6 p m bringing total deaths to forty two. New cases reported yesterday stand at eleven for a total of 165. There are now nineteen foci of infection across the city.
New York July 27 authorities plan strong action to curb tobacco smuggling at Bayonne New Jersey. Twenty seven bales of Sumatra tobacco worth about 2000 dollars found in a woman’s home linked to a gang. The Diament steamer of Standard Oil is named as the vessel source. The collector may pursue fines against masters or owners and will refer the case to the U S district attorney for prosecution amid twenty similar recent cases involving Standard Oil ships. Standard Oil officials vowed to investigate the matter.
North Sydney July 27 crowds cheered as the Roosevelt under Commander Robert E Peary cleared the wharf bound for the North Pole. The city decorated for the occasion with Peary predicting a successful voyage and a September 1906 return. Mrs Peary and their daughter left for New York.
Minneapolis July 27 Bishop Isaac W Joyce, rendered gravely ill by a cerebral hemorrhage and paralytic attack during a July 2 Red Rock camp meeting, is not expected to survive the day.
Indianapolis July 27 Governor Hanly has been commended by church groups statewide for law enforcement efforts following an attack by Rev W A Shaw pastor of Trinity Congregational who accused him of cowardice for not enforcing the anti cigarette law and pursuing O A Baker. Meanwhile the Indiana Railroad commission will hear Ramona Oolitic Stone Co requests Aug 10 for coal rate reductions and potential Monon Vandalia rate agreements. Governor Hanly plans to fill Marion and Anderson police boards, appointing Thomas Bagot to Anderson and seeking a successor to L C Lillard to stabilize city boards.
The Chicago City Railway company files a federal bill asking the circuit court to restrain Chicago from interfering with its 119 lines within the city. The suit challenges the March municipal ownership ordinance as unconstitutional and argues relief is needed from alleged prejudicial city action. The franchises run to 1958 and the 99 year act could influence the case.
Cornelius McCormick an extensive real estate dealer is under arrest charged with attempted murder. Miss Kitty Murphy lies at death's door from a bullet wound in the head. The shooting happened on a main street in view of hundreds. McCormick had pursued Miss Murphy but she recently chose another suitor.

Lacygne Kansas July 27. Mattie and Grace Wigner sisters aged fourteen and sixteen drowned while attempting to ford a creek west of the town. The tragedy ends a local family’s day of work and relief volunteers searched the area for hours. Authorities reported no immediate signs of foul play and the incident is being investigated by local officials.
Laporte Indiana July 26 The Darrow Disbarment case has been continued until September 11 at the request of Judge McClure who must attend to business at Anderson his home. The defense favored postponement while the prosecution initially objected but later agreed.
Indianapolis July 27. Carrie Nation’s presence at the prohibition city convention provoked resentment among delegates and leaders, causing many to leave while nominations were rushed. George Hitz was nominated for mayor amid party infighting as law enforcement ideas were debated. Flourishing pearl button industry in Indiana employs about 170 factory workers with mussel beds yielding 600 tons recently.
Indianapolis July 27 Special agent Frank J. Pool of the bureau of corporations arrived at the Claypool hotel to study Indiana oil firm practices. He may investigate the oil situation further during his stay as he aids James R. Garfield in uncovering alleged use of fictitious company names and railroad discrimination favoring Standard Oil allied concerns.
In Oakland City Indiana on July 27 the Cumberland Presbyterian church and the regular Presbyterian church joined to form what is likely the first union of Presbyterian churches in the state. The consolidation follows an act by the general assemblies of both branches toward closer unity.

Sneak thieves in Decatur Indiana struck the Smith Yager Folk drug store on July 27 taking about $1,000 including $800 in cash and checks totaling the rest. A large pocketbook contained the checks, and $10 was rifled from the money drawer, with the crime blamed on local residents.
London July 27 Nationalist leader John Redmond and his followers persisted in obstruction in the house of commons yesterday. After remonstrances from across the country condemning the harm to workingmen, they decided to withdraw all further opposition to private bills.
Martinsville Indiana will host the national Pentecost encampment opening August 4 in Forest Grove park. One tent will seat 4000, with attendance expected at 4000 daily. Organizers plan a large gathering with substantial turnout.
