The newly named House banking and currency committee met for two and a half hours to discuss currency elasticity and reserve funds. A five member sub committee was authorized to draft a currency bill with no hearings until the draft is ready.
Washington reports Senator Jeff Davis introduced a drastic anti trust bill. It would ban trusts and protect domestic corporations while opposing foreign firms. Penalties range from fines up to twenty-one years in prison.
In Washington on December 6 the House Democratic caucus voted 124 to 4 to reject Representative Jones of Virginia’s idea to strip minority designations from minority leaders. The caucus then adopted a resolution affirming John Sharp Williams as the minority leader with the power over committee appointments. In Noblesville Indiana on December 5 Clara Allright, seventeen, a domestic worker, died by poisoning in an apparent suicide. no motive is known.
Princeton Indiana ends alcohol sales as 11 pm seals doors of three saloons. The town plans to appoint receivers to oversee matters amid local sentiment shifting. In Virginia Norick a federal court judge weighing receivership for Jamestown exposition company cites insolvency and tension with creditors.
Roy Uaraes and Dr A Barnes son were convicted of robbing Richard McGuire, a war veteran, of $200. The old soldier was targeted in Marion as part of a crime noted in local records. Uaraes and Barnes junior face sentencing after the court sessions.
In Hammond and nearby areas Indiana officials deny reports that the Bible will be excluded from public schools. President Knotts and board members insist no consideration has been given to such action and pledge usual Christmas carols and similar routines as in other cities. Prof Joseph A Holmes of the United States geological survey told the American Society of Mechanical Engineers that more than 50 percent of the nation’s coal supply is permanently lost due to wasteful mining.
