Washington authorities anticipate a naval clash within forty eight hours as Commodore Dewey prepares his squadron to engage Spanish forces. The movement signals a swift decision to end Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines.
The blockade of Havana is satisfactory with no bombardment planned. Rainy season delays full Cuban campaign, as authorities note neutrality orders from Britain Italy France Russia and others. Germany and Austria remain noncommittal while the navy readies ships and the McKee torpedo boat joins the squadron.
At Chickamauga National Park Ga April 28 the Sixteenth infantry joins from Forts Sherman Spokane and Boise Barracks. Troops A and I First Cavalry from Fort Huachuca arrive with E First Cavalry from Fort Sill. The signal corps sets up two stations marks Thomas HQ at Snodgrass Hill and Brooke HQ at Lytle Hill. British officials arrived at Ferrell after steaming 600 miles in 31 hours following departure from Queens Town at 5 AM Monday. They head toward the Mediterranean to pursue American yachts in Cadiz and Tarifa.

Mae and Family eries Handcar Ran Down by a Train Petersburg Indiana April 26 An Evansville and Indianapolis railroad engine struck a handcar carrying Jasper Bennett his wife and a 3 year old child. The child was killed and Mrs Bennett fatally injured.
Dr D M Calvert a leading dentist living alone was bound gagged choked and beaten by three burglars who ransacked his home in South Bend Ind They stole $200 in valuables and left him near death The incident followed his children leaving for college and adds to a morning of crime reports across Indiana including pensions and legal notices from April 26 28 1890s style dispatches.
Indiana superior court orders Vandalia railroad company books and papers to Indianapolis for inspection in a $2,000,000 suit over the state school fund. Judge Carter may require courthouse access and an accountant will select documents for removal to Indianapolis.
April 28 report from Angola Indiana states Lewis A Hendry proprietor of the Hendry Hotel and capitalist was indicted by the grand jury for forgery for altering wheat receipts in a deal with rival merchant William Patterson. Hendry pleaded not guilty and trial set for September term. he posted bond to appear. Washington dispatch lists Indiana pension grants and murder trial updates from Greencastle and Brazil.
