In Paterson New Jersey on April 24 striking dye helpers forced the suspension of business at mills by force engaging police and plant managers in running fights. Hostilities included pistol fire with many injured but none severely. RIots prompt grand jury action while leaders urge peaceful end and wage concessions amid threats of broader industry impact.
John Cummings, who admits killing Anna Dishman, a one year old servant, years ago, intends to go to prison to shield a family member. He was bonded for trial next month after a relative reported him. Cummings, a well to do farmer, has deeded his farm to his wife.

Nashville Indiana April 23 One of the most brutal crimes in years occurred when whitecappers attacked William Caldwell a leading citizen eight miles west of Nashville Caldwell had returned from a friend's house and was surrounded by at least 25 men He was pistol whipped kicked and then tied dragged and beaten along a stream before being secured to a tree Twenty five gashes marked his back his eyes swollen and his head cut This is the second whitecap case in three weeks Charles S Rice was the other target believed motive was Caldwell accusing a neighbor of theft
In a major blaze in Indianapolis the district between 17th and Alvoro and 20th and Yandes streets saw 20 light frame buildings destroyed or damaged. A dozen families were left homeless and the total loss is under 5000 dollars, with about half insured.

In Muncie Indiana on April 22 Mary Morris aged 13 was cooking when a gas stove exploded. Her clothing caught fire and she sustained severe burns before help arrived. She was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
In Nashville Indiana on April 24 masked men attacked Finley Stretchberry and beat him, tied him to a fence post, and left him near death. His wife was assaulted and driven insane by the ordeal. Fellow victim William Caldwell was also nearly murdered within 48 hours.
A large portion of Idaville Indiana’s business district was burned yesterday. The blaze started in the Idaville bank on Main Street and spread with a high west wind, consuming 15 business rooms over about two hours. Loss is about 40000 dollars with 8000 insured. Fire origin unknown.
The 77 year old Mrs Adeline Shultz was found drowned in a well ten feet deep near her Liberty home. Her husband John Shultz, a wealthy local farmer, reported her missing after returning from work and uncovered the well to discover her body. Authorities suspect a despondent act after an illness.
