London reports a rising society scandal featuring Mr Beaumont and his wife, widow of General Sir George Colley. The incompatibility of temper is cited as the reason for separation, with Mr Beaumont pressing her to leave the home and she refusing. More developments are anticipated.

James Burns of Lynn died this morning after being knocked out by Harry Tracy of Cambridge in an eight round Lynn Athletic Club bout. The KO broke a blood vessel in his brain and he never regained consciousness. Tracy was arrested for manslaughter. Arrests of the referee, seconds and managers will follow.
A three year old girl Emily Wyess drowned in a tin boiler while washing a doll’s clothes in Williamsburg New York. Curiously another child suffered a similar death in Brooklyn last Saturday.
The Indiana Midland mixed train with the Crawfords and a sheriff on board was spiked by strikers as it started. The other train was already held. In Noblesville the Midland pay car carried funds to settle with strikers and paid wages up to April 1.
Ottumwa Iowa May 28 It is evident mine operators plan to import black miners to replace striking workers Phillips Coal company brought fifty laborers to work at Diamond mine with sheriff deputies ensuring order. Similar actions are planned at Foster Mystic and other company sites. If the strike lasts another month up to 8000 may be imported.
River miners in the Pittsburg district censured local officers and formally withdrew from the United Mine-Workers' association of the Federation of Labor. They stated they would rather strike eight hours and lose on May 1 than back down on that issue and will join the Knights of Labor.

Gary Hovey declines to honor Governor of Kentucky's request for Mrs Laura Jones of Rockport. John Bonhomme of Owensboro, father of Laura, seeks arrest and return on perjury charges after Laura ran away and married Mr Jones of Rockport. Father claims Laura is underage at 16.
Lord Salisbury responds to Secretary Blaine's proposal for a limited seal catch in Alaskan waters. He has not decisively ruled and will soon announce his opinion. The British premier is cautious about a closed season and fears public indignation over the report.
Admiral Carter died in Washington on May 28. He had been retired since August 1881 and was promoted to rear admiral by an 1882 act of Congress. Born in Tennessee, he served forty-one years in the navy after earlier serving as a brigadier-general in the army.

In Cuienco on May 28 a plasterer Francis Friburg living at 66th and May streets shot himself through the heart. The elderly man, aged 82, died from the act experienced by authorities as suicide.
Minneapolis reports Charles Pillsbury, leader of the English syndicate mills, has purchased three quarters of all wheat offered and has been accumulating for weeks. About 8.4 million bushels are in the city, with 6 million in No. 1 northern and contract grades. In Gatena Kansas a Colorado woman Mrs Blanche McKey and her six year old son were found hanged in a woods after an afternoon with William Alvord. Alvord, the suspected lover, was arrested and attempted suicide in his cell after the bodies were discovered.

The government rests its case in the Plenty Horses trial after eye witnesses Peter Richard Broken Arm and Bear-That-Lays-Down testify. Interpreter Thomas Flood says the prisoner spoke English fluently. The defense calls American Horse and William Thompson of Fort Keogh to close their case.
GALESBURG May 24 After notice to grand officers of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen the Switchmen withdraw their action from the supreme council of Federated Railway Employees The move follows the trainmen refusal to support the switchmen in their dispute with the Northwestern A June reorganization and new organizations are anticipated within the council.
Washington in May Attorney General Miller rules that the Secretary of the Treasury lacks power under the 1890 act to issue Treasury notes except to pay monthly balances. Seignorage fund stands at 4 million dollars, allowing silver certificate issuance up to that amount. Consideration also given to issuing silver certificates against 20 million dollars in silver half dollars held by the Treasury.
