Charles Brown traveling salesman was shot three times by Henry McNew blacksmith at Wittens Mill Virginia on a Saturday. Brown died Sunday after a special train brought him to Bluefield hospital. McNew fled to the mountains after the shooting and is alleged to have insulted Brown's wife over a trivial matter prompting the fatal confrontation. Brown was a prominent figure in Tazewell County.
Pittsburg May 21. The temporary retirement of Francis L Robbins from management of the Pittsburg Coal Company has been publicly reported here. The move comes after weeks of uncertainty about leadership and follows a policy shift within the company.
In Shelby Ohio on May 21 a crowd of 2000 at Ball Ground blocked Constable Buck and deputy Will Harris who came with warrants from the Law and Order League to arrest Mansfield and Sharon baseball players. The officers were beaten cuffed and jeered. Police protected the officers as Justice Cattey remained amid the uproar. The players had been fined $100 by Mayor Skites for Sunday law violations.
In Cleveland on May 21 representatives of the lake carriers and the licensed tugmen's association reached a two year agreement. The settlement includes a concession granting tugmen every other night and Sundays, ending long labor disputes with firemen and other lake carrier workers.
Dr. W. C. Vannuys, former assistant superintendent at the state hospital for the insane in Topeka Kansas, has been selected by the trustees of the Indiana village for epileptics to serve as medical superintendent. Born in Waveland Montgomery County he is about thirty years old.

Lee Francis arrested in Louisville for assault with intent to kill. Mrs. Levens addressed Main street M E church for the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society bank offering, larger than last year. Mistletoe Temple held memorial services at Park Christian church. Rev. Porter spoke. The will of David Smith probated, provisions for wife and children.
