Lourenso Marques May 21 The Standard and Diggers News confirms relief of Mafeking with a confused account of events. An engagement near Marbirogo ended with relief forces breaking Boer lines and bombarding the town causing Boer retreat. Boers suffered two killed and five wounded while British losses are described as considerable.
British troops entered Newcastle on Friday and hoisted the Union Jack over the town hall. Boer forces passed through Tuesday before the town’s occupation. Natal is practically clear of Boers.

Professor Roy Wison White of the University of Pennsylvania law department was murdered late Saturday near Thirty-second Street and Powleton avenue. He was found with a crushed skull after leaving the university to catch a train to Germantown and died Sunday morning in Presbyterian hospital. Three men, two of them negroes, have been arrested as investigators weigh motive and details. White, a Richmond Indiana native and Earlham College graduate, had studied French civil law in Paris and was slated to teach that branch next year.
In Memphis on May 21 three West Virginia coal miners Edward Whittington Dennis Rogan and Thomas Coleman fought with T F McKenna the porter and his wife. Mrs McKenna shot Whittington in the neck killing him instantly then shot Rogan in the face likely to prove fatal. Mrs McKenna is in jail.
New Orleans on May 21 reports delegates from Ohio Indiana Illinois and Kentucky arriving for the National Travelers Protective association convention. Special train and steam boat excursions are arriving by the score and attendance is expected to surpass all previous gatherings. A parade through the streets with unique features will open the convention tomorrow.

Patrolman Hensley was fatally injured after a trolley wire detached and shocked him while on a street car’s rear platform. Fellow officer Suasith freed him as the current burned his hands to the bone. Hensley died after being taken home unconscious.
In Terre Haute Indiana May 21 The wife of Elijah Myers a Prairie Creek township farmer is dying of consumption. Myers climbed a tree to shoot a squirrel for her supper slipped and fell breaking his neck and dying instantly leaving a wife and three children dependent on charity.
Mentone Indiana May 21 Mr and Mrs Summerland have placed a life like marble statue of their daughter Wanda at her grave. The seated figure rests her head on one hand and shows a serene expression as admirers praise its beauty and likeness.
For the third time in a year a barn belonging to William Lee near Alexandria Indiana was destroyed by fire with losses estimated at 1300 dollars. The blaze is suspected incendiary. Lee suffered a home loss a year ago and another attempt occurred a few days earlier.
Michael Tracy, a well known farmer from Moore's Hill Indiana, was found dead in his barn after leaving home in normal health. He apparently hanged himself. no motive or cause was given. His wife summoned help when he failed to return.
John Sebach aged 65 and long time Goshen resident disappeared a few days ago. A note in his room read When you find this you need not hunt for me among the living. He had about $500 saved but was despondent due to inability to secure regular work.
Huntington Ind May 21 The post office and general store of Jason Calvert postmaster at Gablesville Huntington county were wrecked by the explosion of a soda fountain Mr Calvert was working on the apparatus at the time of the blast his arm broken and his head and body severely bruised and lacerated
