A $25,000 tug wrecked after colliding with a sailing vessel it was towing at Port Town. In London Florence Nightingale marked her 75th birthday. Admiral Almy near Washington is gravely ill. The Rothschilds’ Baku kerosene factory burned with extensive damage. Two bicyclists Frank Hill and George Myer of Loveland Ohio suffered skull fractures likely fatal. Eli Williams of Philadelphia attempted to kill his wife then fatally shot himself. New York Legislature appropriated $25,000 for a Cotton States exposition exhibit in Atlanta. State building planned.
In Trenton on May 16 Charles F. Sloan superintendent of 8. K. Wilson's woolen mills was chased by about 300 girls with heavy bobbins along Broad street aided by several boys with a rope lasso. The mob grew from concerns that Sloan was replacing longtime manager William McGregor amid a recent strike. Sloan refused to leave his new post, and the girls demanded his removal.
Canton editors report that in the Snell conspiracy case the defense will rely on hypnotism. Wiggins allegedly controlled Mrs Snell and conceived the Mackay shooting. Mackay testified with evasions prompting the prosecution to accuse collusion and claim deed of property to Mackay to escape prosecution.
Baseball results from the Western League show Milwaukee defeating Kansas City 8 to 2 with key batters Hughey Knops and Roach contributing. Atomson Kansas May 16 jury convicts Jim Nutt of murder in the Coleman case after a 40 minute deliberation. Ex treme penalty 10 years in penitentiary. Nutt unmoved. friends agree he is dangerous at large. He will be arraigned on assaulting and attempting to kill Mrs Payton.

The body of ex Governor Chase arrived in Indianapolis at 11 20 pm and was escorted by a G A R committee to the undertaker. It was taken to the statehouse and viewed by many before the funeral at a Christian church under G A R auspices. Interment is at Crown Hill with old comrades present from several states.

Henry Neff a frail German man admitted for frozen feet at Indianapolis city hospital ran away yesterday. Doctors fear he intends self harm. three weeks earlier he was found with a self inflicted throat wound. Neff had no home and was considered for transfer to the poor farm.
In Lafayette Indiana ministers allege a Sunday baseball violation and a hearing is set. Councilman Timberlake proposes an ordinance to ban Sunday football baseball or theater shows.

He was 24 years old unmarried and lived at Northernon.
