Greenfield Indiana May 7 The trial of J W Richey for wife desertion has been continued indefinitely. Richey former Charlottesville preacher left his wife with a young woman in the family and was arrested in St Lews. He was tried and convicted in Hamilton County but the supreme court reversed the ruling and he was released. He was then arrested again on a wife desertion warrant and gave bond with help from his forgiven wife. The prosecuting attorney says Richey will be tried.
A major fire in Vistula Indiana destroyed the business district causing about 15000 dollars in losses with little or no insurance coverage. Fire officials say the flames swept through several shops and storage spaces, threatening nearby structures as residents began salvage work.
Washington May 7 In a tense session the Senate debated the lead tariff schedule as Senator Beveridge urged caution noting the bill would be decided before the people. Senator Cummins pressed for lower duties on iron and steel while Bristow appealed for recognition and a chance to speak.
Washington reports that Rep Murphy will file formal impeachment charges against Federal Judges Philips and McPherson of Missouri's western district. The move follows a Hagerman telegram to Attorney General Wickersham labeling Murphy's inquiry as misrepresentation. Rucker backs Murphy, accusing the judges over Missouri two cent passenger rate issues and the maximum freight law.
Federal Judge McPherson has extended the restraining order blocking Circuit Attorney Jones of St. Louis from interfering in the Missouri rate litigation in Kansas City.
Rochester Ind May 7 Fulton county days carried the day in Thursday's local option election by a majority of 1627 voting against the licensed saloon. The county had expelled the saloon previously by remonstrance, and the result keeps that status unchanged.

Local officers investigate as Busz plans more speeches before the May 22 local option vote.
Four burglars looted C F Soapeborn sporting goods in La Porte Indiana poured explosives on ruins and set a fire then rode off with a wagon of loot drawn by Hum ming Wird a $1500 trotter. Police pursued by auto exchanged shots and captured one man Sobesy 26 formerly jailed in Jeffersonville for grand larceny. others fled into nearby woods. Fire department arrived but no aid needed. Loot valued over $1000 included firearms talking machines and knives.
