It started in a seven story brick building on Seventh street and spread to Pittsburg Female College on Eighth street and Christ M. E. Church, both of which burned completely. The exchange centers on Italy seeking punishment for murder of Italian subjects in American prisons and threats to recall its minister if justice is not served.
Indiana miners around Evansville declare a morning strike. About 700 workers, including those in nearby mines, stay out until operators grant an eight hour workday.
A blaze at the Brooke Island steel works caused an estimated 400000 dollars in damage and destroyed several Westinghouse engines. The fire left nearly 1000 workers unemployed.
Maprio reports May 6 that workers on public works in Madrid Corrunna Sargossa Cadiz and Alicante have gone on strike. No disorder is reported.

During the ninth performance at the Park Theater in Dayton Ohio last night Mrs Thomas Griffith in the audience with her husband gave birth to a girl. Officials say the baby was born shortly after the show began and is reported in good condition.

The corvette Nautilus of the Spanish Navy anchors in the North River arriving from Havana. Five years after purchase for a school ship she carries thirty four cadets and seventy apprentices. The ship will stay about a month with officers and crew visiting West Point Annapolis and Niagara Falls. The city will extend courtesies to the officers.
Two children of Col. Thomas Tanner aged 2 and 5 died last night in Rison Arkansas after ingesting cane vermifuge prescribed by Dr N N Neelins a well known physician. The town is excited and relatives threaten Neelins who has sought police protection.
Albany May 6 The Court of Appeals ruled for William Zeigler in his suit to stop Mayor Chapin of Brooklyn from buying the city's water works for 1 250 000. The case drew wide notice amid scandal charges against Brooklyn officials tied to the proposed purchase.
Washington May 6 Secretary Tracy plans to move Rear Admiral Greer from the Pacific slope to command the Brooklyn navy yard. The secretary expresses strong trust in Greer to execute his forthcoming plans in the new post.
Ex Governor Thomas T. Crittenden was stricken with a ruptured blood vessel at the base of the brain. Doctors say recovery is impossible. The diagnosis followed an examination after he fell ill in Kansas City Missouri.
The Voted States Senate committee on lations with Canada began its paraion here today. Senators Horn Dolph Gray and Hale were present along with a public reception for the committee on change.
