Washington reports General Funston earns praise for the Aguinaldo capture with calls for brigadier general promotion. Washington March 29. War Department has not decided whether Aguinaldo will be tried and under what regime. Possible civil treason or insurrection offenses are discussed, with penalties ranging from death to imprisonment. Military status expected, with cautious hopes for amnesty and continued captivity.
Evans says the capture will not be framed as breaking the backbone of Philippine troubles. he believes it will not yield a final settlement. He suggests Aguinstide’s fate and government punishment are unclear and notes potential clemency from the president.

French troops capture the Mandani camp of Fodi Kabbas near Cambia after a sharp fight in which Fodi Kabbas is wounded and 150 followers killed or wounded. Fifty prisoners taken. A lamp explosion during an auction at Frank Rogers home in Diamond, Indiana sparked a panic as doors and windows could not handle the crowd. Woman Mrs C G Catterson and her four year old daughter were killed or fatally injured. about a dozen others injured. no fire occurred.
Congress man Steele of this district former governor notes no information will be released until the president issues a proclamation. In Goshen Indiana a stranger hired nurse Jerorami Burkley for baby care at a weekly price. The man paid $30 and left the infant. After about 81 weeks to three months with no word, the Rev and Mrs Anda formally adopt the child. Clothing suggests wealth. parentage unknown.
Theo dore Wallert murdered his wife and four stepchildren in August after a marital dispute. He returned home to kill them with a butcher knife as they fled the burning barn. Wallert confessed and faced execution with indifference.
Members of the commission and U S troops greet Aguinaldo's capture with great gratification. A further report adds Capistrano's surrender in southern Mindanao, boosting the celebrations.
In Mayville Michigan on March 29 Christian Leix aged 35, in an insane fit, cut the throat of Jacob Mooth who worked on his farm, and then killed himself the same way. The incident follows a report of various unrelated items and notes.
Eliah Mitchell, 14 months a farmhand near New Winchester, was arrested in Hendricks county on a Douglass Georgia warrant charging murder dating to 1806. He denies the charge and says he was never in Georgia. Sheriff Figg accompanied the arrest.
Nashville Indiana March 29 burglars robbed the county recorder's office taking 35 dollars and valuables while Recorder Thomas Durna not present on arrival. Nearby Dillsboro March 24 10 year old Lawrence Kittle seriously injured sliding from a haystack where a cow horn pierced his throat. Wabash March 28 a pioneer grave marker in Keller cemetery bears a lament about a young girl death despite doctors and men of intent trying to help.
At Bremen Indiana on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad a collision killed engineer Arthur Talbert of Garrett and seriously injured fireman George Wabel of Fort Wayne. Talbert leaves a wife and two children.
Havana March 2 The relations committee of the Cuban constitutional convention failed to agree with five members each presenting a different report. Gomez rejected the Platt amendment while Silvera urged deferring questions to future government. De Quesada supported the Platt pledge with limits on U S interference. Ta Inayes favored Platt defense granting a U S war base in exchange for independence guarantees. Members will report to the convention next Monday.
The Kentucky court of appeals orders new trials for Caleb Powers and James Howard. A. M. L. Jacobs is arrested in Onawa Iowa as a Cudahy case suspect but released for lack of evidence. Secretary of War Russell A. says insurgents fading as Agulpalido case influences opinion. Herbert Spencer in weak health writes he can scarcely work.
