Correll Bluffs Iowa March 17 The grand jury will consider the alleged swindling syndicate linked to fake horse and foot races and wrestling matches. Victims are expected to testify against J C Maybray and others arrested at Little Rock with $5000 lost by W H Tedford Bolckow Missouri who says he was drawn to invest by a neighbor and felt hypnotized while swindled in 1908.
In New York on St Patrick’s Day 75 000 descendants of Irishmen marched, creating the largest parade in city history. The giant column moved eight abreast up Fifth Avenue, ending at an uptown hall for the night’s ball attended by about 30 000 people.
Fred M. Varney former cashier of the First National Bank of Somersworth pleaded guilty to embezzling 85000 dollars from the bank. He was sentenced to five years in the federal prison at Atlanta Georgia after admitting a six year pattern of shortages caused by shock speculation.
Henry Clay Cullen brother of U S Senator Shelby M Cullom died in Peoria New York aged seventy. He served as Joliet postmaster for years and later held federal land agent posts in Minnesota and California.

George E. Lyon, a noted livestock buyer from Lafayette, Ind., was instantly killed on William Washburn’s farm northeast of the city. Lyon was teaching Frank Weaver to shoot cattle when Washburn fired at a calf. The calf charged, Washburn fled, and a misfire as he climbed a fence sent a bullet through Lyon’s heart.
