Danville Illinois March 13 The counterfeiting case against attorney Charles E Brown has drawn extraordinary attention as investigators reveal he began last March in Chicago buying dies and metals. Brown used the name Charlie Smith and was arrested after engravers suspected him for producing dies spelling In God We Trust and United States of America Ha f Dol. A basement forge and complete outfit were found at his home. Brown broke down at a preliminary hearing and was bound over for grand jury action. He faced five counts at first and was jailed when bondsmen fell away. Vermillion county bar members posted a fourth bondsman set. The government then reindicted him on thirty four further counts at the March term.
In Washington Indiana March 13 authorities learned Parker who had eluded capture for two years died at Longcoatee from bullet wounds inflicted in a clash with John Greenwood at East Loogootee. Parker had wounded Joseph Ceebran in Washington two years earlier and fled. Parker returned home about two weeks ago then traveled toward Shoals with his wife and Greenwood. The trio drank quarreled and Greenwood seized Parker s revolver firing four shots. Parker died after being transported to Loogootee with bullets hitting his vital organs. Greenwood son of Thomas Greenwood a longtime Washington farmer is jailed.
In Wincamac Indiana on March 18 Dr John Bil a prominent dentist and Oscar Warden owner of the Inn Hotel killed nine geese after firing on a flock they found sleeping by the Tippecanoe river. Felix Frain farmer valued the birds at 96 each and the hunters paid 64 to settle.
Lawrence Rosenell twenty lost his life after a dare near Carrier Mill during a storm. A live wire lay on the ground and a companion urged him to grasp it. He touched the current and died instantly. his father was severely burned trying to remove the body from the wire.
Washington reports that Congress failed to pass a full reorganization of the postal department and the postal savings bank bill. A director of posts with a $19,000 yearly salary was proposed, with numerous executive changes to follow, as Postmaster General Aikenkock weighs recommendations to balance campaign promises and Roosevelt-era personnel.
