Funeral of Congressman Townshend Held at St Matthew's
The funeral for the late Congressman Townshend was held today at St Matthew's church with many personal and political friends in attendance. Father Chappel delivered a brief sermon after the Catholic service, and the casket was taken to Mount Olive cemetery and placed temporarily in a vault. Honorary pallbearers included Chief Justice Fuller, Senator Farwell, ex-Speaker Carlisle, and First Assistant P.M. G. Stevenson.

Rear Admiral John Lee Davis United States Navy (retired) died at 11 this morning at the Ebbitt House Washington D C of a complication of diseases. Born September 8 1825 he served twenty seven years at sea beginning as a midshipman in 1841 and retired on his sixty second birthday September 8 1887 under the age clause. His last cruise ended November 1886 returning from command of the Asiatic squadron.
