At Chicago a day of debate over substituting seventy eight Roosevelt delegates for Taft delegates ends with a vote. Deneen's amendment is tabled by 544 to 510, granting Roosevelt a clear majority as Taft gains few seats and tensions flare among Indiana and Pennsylvania delegates.
In a heated session at the convention delegates clashed over rules and contested seats. Judge Morrison of Arizona defended the national committee while Hadley supporters staged a forty minute demonstration. The body adjourned at noon with tensions high.
