Joseph D. Keith charged with the murder of Nora Kifer of Elberfeld Ind underwent a preliminary hearing before Justice Youngblood in Boonville. Five of 23 witnesses testified damage occurred mirroring Vanderburg coroner evidence. Keith held without bond to the grand jury amid threats and nervous conduct amid rumors he will try an alibi.
Fort Wayne on July 14 Charles Miller sought a license to wed Bessie Miller his supposed cousin. Indiana law barred intermarriage of close kin. The bride’s adopted father revealed she was a foundling nine teen years earlier and raised her as his daughter, not informing his nephew. The license was issued and the marriage occurred.
South Bend, Ind July 14 Richard Dorn who died recently was buried in a coffin made from the walnut tree he planted in Michigan decades ago. Dorn said to be 100 years old, came from Ireland and watched the tree grow for 40 years before lumber sent to Fort Wayne was polished into the casket. He kept the wood locked away for many years.
In Indianapolis on July 13 12 year old Frank Alhand was fatally kicked by a team of mules attached to a sanitation wagon. He suffered a fractured skull and severe leg injuries as the wagon ran over him while loaded with garbage.
In Madison Indiana on July 14 a premature dynamite explosion at a Crossplains quarry hurled William Yost of Madison and Charles Clapp of Ripley county into the air. Yost was found with severe injuries and fatally hurt while Clapp suffered serious bruises.
A telegram to relatives reports Captain Coghlan commander of the Raleigh in the Manila fight is critically ill with pneumonia after an operation. He is with his wife at Colorado Springs awaiting further word.
