Bedford Jan 25 A derrick at Consolidated Stone company's quarry collapsed killing Albert Cass of Bloomington. His widow and child survive as the body is prepared for shipment to his late home. the piece notes a prior act of saving a woman and a later will involving a farm and ten thousand dollars.

Officers elected include President General J N Reece of Illinois and Vice Presidents General P H Barry Nebraska W Henry Mississippi J W M Appleton West Virginia and J Gore Indiana. Secretary Treasurer Col C E Bleyer Chicago and Assistant Secretary Capt E J Dimmick Chicago. A reorganization bill was rejected with a call to Congress to raise annual militia funding from 400000 to 2000000 dollars.
Edward and George Meeks were lynched Saturday night at Fort Scott and buried in Oak Grove cemetery in Kansas City. Dr. Stephen A Northrop preached at the Meeks funeral and urged Christian reform, suggesting Rev C M Sheldon supervise Fort Scott’s religious revival.

Republican senate caucus endorses reorganized elective offices with Charles Bennett of New York named secretary to replace William Cox and Daniel Ransdell of Indiana chosen as sergeant at arms over Alonzo Stewart and A H Shaw. Clarkson declines bid causing tension. no chaplain chosen, Milburn remains.
Washington January 25. The second day of debate on the Roberts case in the House was less dramatic though galleries remained crowded. Rev Dr Bristoll, the president's pastor, attended much of the session. Mr Roberts was absent. Landis of Indiana delivered a sharp attack on Mormon influence in Utah and accused church leaders of deceit and violations of anti polygamy laws. Other speakers supported or opposed resolutions, with the majority deemed likely to pass. Routine Senate business followed.
Representative Landis vigorously protested Roberts entry to Congress in a House debate. He accused Roberts of insulting Helen Gould and urged rejection, invoking Mormon Utah and the duty of American families, mothers, and fathers to oppose perceived immorality and desecration of virtue.
Chicago officials arrested Harry King and James Prince, managers of the Chicago Embroidery Exchange, on swindling charges after women across the country paid for supplies to sew at $8 weekly and received little material. Postoffice inspectors report about 1,000 letters weekly.
