New York January 18 Kid McCoy won a three round decision over Joe Choynski at Broadway Athletic Club. Timekeeping controversy left the second round disputed with McCoy saved from a knockout by the bell. Choynski outboxed McCoy in parts but the Kid delivered a decisive late blow in the third. Afterward both men signed to meet again February 20 at the same venue.
General Buller's forward move near Ladysmith is interpreted as approaching Boer lines, with 14 miles to White's outposts. News notes rising fever and dysentery in Ladysmith, plus a report on a patriotic demonstration in London for volunteers at St Paul’s Cathedral and crowds in streets.

They gagged choked and stole 875 before setting fire to the store in a bid to cover their escape. Police hunt a duo described only vaguely by the injured widow who remains prostrate.

Cincinnati January 13. Adolph Sternberger prominent merchant jailed for bankruptcy fraud and $85,000 creditor claims. Judge Thompson ordered jail until claims satisfied. He has been confined about a month. Yesterday his attorneys settled and Sternberger was released.
Frankfort Kentucky January hearing opens Monday as Goebel Taylor and Beckham Marshalls contest committees prepare for testimony. About 5000 witnesses are expected as visitors flood the state capital during the preliminary proceedings.
