Special to the Tribune reports Jack McMasters, renowned baseball trainer, departing Brooklyn today to coach at Princeton College. He previously trained the Brooklyn National Base Ball Club to victory last season.
Henry George retires from journalism today and William T. Croasdale becomes editor of the Standard. George will focus on new books and lectures, with improved but not fully restored health.
The new Assistant Postmaster Alderman Gregory will assume duties tomorrow after preferring to complete his term as Alderman first. He chose to hold one office at a time, with Postmaster Van Cott.
New York December 31 Historic Castle Garden passes from state to city hands as the Commission of Emigration hands over the key and locks to the city comptroller. The site will be razed to become part of Battery Park and all furniture is to be moved to Ward's Island.
