A bridge over Blackfork Creek on the Atlantic and Great Western railroad gave way during a freight crossing at dawn. Fourteen cars were involved and thirteen were wrecked while a locomotive and head car survived. No injuries reported, train delayed, trestle work hoped to restore service soon.
New York reports in Dec 25 items include a perilous sea voyage after leaving Europe, a Henry Schenck mining director withdrawal amid criticism, and Washington’s stance on mining investments. Other items note a Hunter's Point church school bible-reading dispute, a Union Square Bank surplus forecast, and scattered local curiosities.

A Mankato letter reports a wife and four children died in Noble county while the drunken husband deserted them. The mother, near confinement, walked three miles in a winter blizzard to seek aid, but found her and a newborn frozen in a snow bank. Neighbors recovered all bodies and the husband was tracked down.
New Albany market report lists prices for beans hominy dried fruit and apples per pound wax various commodities. Produce includes beeswax butter flaxseed ginseng and feathers with prices per unit or weight. Cotton yarns coal flour wheat oats corn potatoes coffee sugar and rice pricing are given with store and wagon rates. Hay prices differentiate Timothy mixed and loose wagon rates.
