Heavy rainfall in Montreal reaches a record for a single event since 1885, flooding streets and damaging cellars as residents report about seven hours of downpour. Reports describe other distant incidents including fatal horse kicks and a deadly train wreck near Kremlin Oklahoma.
Major Taylor faced an indefinite suspension at Albany after refusing to race in the second heat of the one mile professional handicap at Lagoon Island Colosseum track.
